Why gilli mitti?

Petrichor — the smell of rain meeting earth — is one of the most emotionally powerful scents in the world. Scientists trace its origins to geosmin, a compound released by soil bacteria when the first drops fall. For Indians especially, it is inseparable from memory — of monsoons, of childhood, of the particular relief that comes when the heat finally breaks. It is a scent that belongs to all of us.

Care instructions

The first burn matters most. Let the wax pool reach the edges of the vessel before you extinguish it. This prevents tunneling and protects every hour of fragrance.

• Trim the wick to ¼ inch before every burn
• Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a stretch
• Keep away from drafts, direct sunlight, children, and pets
• Always place on a heat-resistant surface
• Stop burning when 1cm of wax remains
